  11. Welcome to The NOMSSI Viewer!
  12.  
  13. This program is a graphics file viewer, that reads and displays images
  14. stored within files with different formats. The NOMSSI Viewer works with
  15. raster images, offering support for Windows and OS/2 2.x BMP, GIF, IFF/
  16. LBM/HAM, PCX, TIFF, TGA and JFIF/JPEG files formats.

  31. SOME FEATURES
  32.  
  33. The NOMSSI Viewer includes a multi-window filemanager to locate
  34. and select files with mouse support, online help and a search
  35. function that recursively scans directories for image files. The
  36. scan parses all files and selects those who matches the supported
  37. file formats specifications, it doesn't just rely on the file
  38. extension.
  39.  
  40. The files can be viewed one at a time or selected for a slide show
  41. with full user control. One can easily generate an array of reduced
  42. images. All parameters, e.g. screen resolution, monitor gamma,
  43. image scale etc. may be specified at run-time in a setup dialog.
  44.  
  45. Once loaded, the images can undergo simple transformations and
  46. color editing, and then be dumped to a palette color file
  47. (TIFF, BMP or TGA).

  50. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
  51.  
  52. The NOMSSI Viewer Release 1.2 should run under DOS 3.3 or higher on
  53. any IBM PC compatible with 640 Kb memory, 80286 processor and VGA
  54. adapter or better. The JPEG decoding routines will run only with a
  55. 80386SX processor or better.
  56.  
  57. The NOMSSI Viewer detects and uses EMS, XMS or disk space to buffer
  58. images for slideshows or transformations like rotating or scaling.
  59. The SVGA chipsets
  60.   Acumos, Ahead, ATI, AL2101, Chips&Tech, Cirrus, Cirrus54,
  61.   Cirrus64, Compaq, Everex, Genoa, HMC, MXIC, NCR, Oak, Paradise,
  62.   Poach, PRIMUS, Realtek, S3, Trident, ET3000, ET4000, UMC,Video7,
  63.   Weitek, Yamaha
  64. and the VESA extensions should be autodetected, 256 color modes
  65. are used.

  67. LICENSING AGREEMENT
  68.  
  69. "The NOMSSI Viewer" is SHAREWARE. It is requested that all users
  70. comply with the following licensing and registration provisions if
  71. they use The NOMSSI Viewer on a regular basis. Should you find this
  72. program useful, register it. You will get the latest release of
  73. "The NOMSSI Viewer". The user fee for this Software is DM 34,- or
  74. US$25 (see REGISTER.FRM).

  76. You may copy and distribute verbatim UNMODIFIED copies of these
  77. Software, in any medium, as long as it remains in its complete form
  78. with all support files, documentation files, this license agreement
  79. and the disclaimer of warranty.
  80. You may charge a distribution fee for the physical act of
  81. transferring a copy. You may not copy, sublicense, distribute or
  82. transfer The NOMSSI Viewer except as expressly provided under this

  103. PKUNZIP ver 2.04g or higher is needed to 'uncompress' the archive.

  105. SETTING UP THE NOMSSI VIEWER
  106.  
  107. Create a target directory on your hard drive in which you want to
  108. install The NOMSSI Viewer. If you want to update from a previous
  109. version, first remove the config and help files (NV.CFG and NV.HLP)
  110. from the target directory.
  111.  
  112. Set the environment variable TEMP to a list of directories to store
  113. temporary files (i.e. insert SET TEMP=C:\TEMP;C:\ in your
  114. AUTOEXEC.BAT and reboot). If this variable doesn't exist, the
  115. current directory is used.
  116.  
  117. Copy all the files from the archive onto the target directory on
  118. your hard drive. To start The NOMSSI Viewer, type NV.EXE at DOS
  119. prompt, your machine configuration (VGA chipset and video memory)
  120. is automatically detected. You can specify a directory to switch on
  121. as a parameter in the command line, like
  122.   NV C:\IMAGES\TIF      or
  123.   NV .                  (overwrites your defaults)
  124. The parameter muss be a valid pathname or it will be ignored.
  125.  
  126. First press F9 to open the setup window. Use the TAB-key and SHIFT+
  127. TAB-key to navigate through the items and set your default options.
  128. Press F1 to get help on the selected field. The file NV.CFG is
  129. written or updated each time you leave the setup window.
  130.  
  131. Please refer to the help texts for further information, they are
  132. available online trough the F1 key. If you still have trouble using
  133. The NOMSSI Viewer, feel free to send an email to the address below
  134. (including a valid return path and the program version, actually
  135. The NOMSSI Viewer 1.2).

  155.  - ILBM/HAM files are said to be 64 colors images, they are
  156.    nevertheless displayed correctly.
  157.  - TGA color maped files are said to be TrueColor files
  158.  - Scrolling doesn't work in VGA-mode 320x200 on some chipsets,
  159.    so the "mosaic" will not work well.
  160.  - The bar gauge will not be updated correctly on some files
  161.  - ATI Graphics Ultra Pro, monitor detected as monochrome
  162.
